A Brief History

The design philosophy behind this style of limiter goes back to the famous British TG console dynamics circuits developed in the late 1960s at one of the world’s most important recording studios. Those original zener-diode limiter designs became known for a sound that was both forceful and musical, capable of producing dramatic compression effects while still sounding thick, rich, and exciting.

Unlike more common compressor topologies, zener-diode designs developed a reputation for their very distinctive envelope behaviour and harmonic character. They could sound explosive on drums, bold on room mics, and unusually exciting on buses and full mixes. That sonic identity is exactly why later recreations and evolutions of the circuit remained so desirable.

The unit behind this pack takes that historic foundation and extends it with added control, sidechain flexibility, and modern usability, while preserving the unmistakable character that made the original concept legendary.

How to Use It in Genesis

Click CAL to ensure the input is calibrated correctly in Genesis. Start with the Red Drive at the 12 o'clock position, then set it back to -24 for the intended compressor response. Dial it back for less compression or increase it for more compression and character.
