The PRE emulations focus on the input stage of the desk, moving from a more controlled preamp tone through to a hotter, more harmonically developed response.

The LINE UNITY emulations preserve the cleaner side of the channel path, while the LINE PUSHED emulations introduce more analog colour, density, and console attitude.

The EQ-focused emulations capture some of the desk’s useful tonal moves, including low-end lift, top-end presence, and more sculpted filter-and-boost combinations.

The MASTER BUS emulation gives you the stereo path of the console itself, ideal for adding final cohesion, depth, and mix-ready analog finish.

A Brief History

Raindirk consoles were designed in the UK by Cyril Jones and became part of a lesser-known but highly respected branch of British console history. Source material on Raindirk’s background points to the company’s early-1970s origins, including a custom console built for Kingsway Studios, followed by additional desks for Olympic Studios in London.

The Series III era is especially interesting because these desks were never truly mass-market products. They earned their reputation through studio use rather than widespread branding, which is part of why Raindirk consoles remain such a cult favourite today. Engineers valued them for their headroom, musicality, and strong analog character, while Olympic’s association helped place them in sessions connected to some of the most important British rock and pop recordings of the period.

That combination of rarity, practical studio pedigree, and distinct console tone is exactly what makes the Raindirk Series III worth preserving in Genesis. It is not just another vintage desk sound, but a piece of British recording history with its own identity.
