The Mercure AX M66 is our full recreation of one of the most expensive and most respected modern tube compressors on the planet. Inspired by the legendary sixty six style topology, this unit is known for its weight, presence, forward momentum and almost supernatural ability to pin a vocal or bass in the mix without sounding compressed. It can be gentle, it can be ferocious and it does both with that unmistakable tube glow that makes audio feel alive.

A Brief History
To understand what makes the M66 special, you have to look at its origin. The real hardware is based on the legendary Fairchild 660, arguably the most famous tube limiters ever made. Those original units were heavy, hot, dangerous to service and almost unobtainable today. They delivered a unique variable bias compression behaviour with a transformer rich signal path that glued audio in a way nothing else ever matched.

The team behind the modern 66 spent years recreating the essence of the 660 using brand new components while maintaining fully balanced push pull tube stages, transformer balanced inputs and transformer balanced outputs. They asked one simple question: How would the original designers have built it today if they still existed?
The result became one of the most sought after modern tube limiters in high end studios worldwide.
