A Brief History

The 32264 belongs to the classic British diode-bridge compressor family that grew out of earlier studio and broadcast limiter designs from the late 1960s and 1970s. It shares the same broader lineage as the 2254, 2264, and later 33609, all of which became known for their dense, musical gain reduction and unmistakable transformer-driven character.

Historically, the 32264 is associated with the console and broadcast side of that design family, carrying forward the same diode-bridge topology that made these compressors so respected. Unlike optical or VCA designs, diode-bridge circuits developed a reputation for combining punch, harmonic richness, and authority in a way that felt both controlled and unmistakably analog.

That heritage is exactly what gives this style of compressor its appeal today on drums, vocals, groups, and mix bus material.

Click CAL to ensure the input is calibrated correctly in Genesis. Start with the Red Drive at the 12 o'clock position, then set it back to -24 for the intended compressor response. Dial it back for less compression or increase it for more compression and character.
