The +5 dBV capture provides the most accurate baseline representation of the original converter path under controlled test conditions. The additional sensitivity options (+16 dBV, -8 dBV, and -16 dBV) allow you to tailor the amount of converter color, transient rounding, and harmonic drive depending on the input level and desired tone.

A Brief History

When the first generation of virtual analog hardware emerged in the late 1990s, it redefined electronic music production. While the internal digital DSP provided expansive synthesis parameters, much of the signature warmth and punch was created as the signal travelled through the physical output stages and AD/DA converters.

The conversion circuitry in these classic units was far from transparent. It introduced a distinct sonic signature characterized by soft transient rounding, subtle midrange density, and a smooth high-frequency roll-off. This original hardware tone remains highly sought after, as modern audio interfaces and software synths operate with far more clinical precision. This collection captures that distinct converter character and makes it available directly within Genesis.

How to Use It in Genesis

Click CAL to ensure the input is calibrated correctly in Genesis. Start with the Red Drive at 0 (Unity)

Use the +5 dBV capture for the most faithful hardware converter response on synths, pads, and lead sounds.

Use the alternative sensitivity settings (-8 dBV, -16 dBV, +16 dBV) when you want to push the conversion path harder for increased harmonic saturation, transient softening, or tone shaping on drum buses and mix elements.

Because these emulations respond dynamically to input levels, small gain adjustments into the module can alter the depth of harmonic character. Start conservatively and adjust the drive to taste.
