The AnalogX Zulu Part 2 Tape Emulations bring a fresh set of tape-style analog processor emulations into Genesis, rebuilt using our HQ 2 Technology for weight, compression, harmonic colour, and mix-ready tape character.

This collection expands on the original Zulu concept with a wider set of tonal behaviours, from cheaper-deck grit and lo-fi crunch through to polished drum bus tone, mix bus glue, and lower-headroom variants that lean harder into compression and colour.

Rather than behaving like a single fixed tape sound, Zulu Part 2 gives you a flexible range of tape-style responses designed for drums, buses, vocals, synths, and full mix processing.

The Cheap Deck emulations lean into rougher, more characterful tape-style behaviour, with more obvious grit, edge, and texture.

The LoFi emulations focus on thicker, dirtier harmonic colour and softer transient behaviour, making them especially useful when you want the sound to feel more obviously processed.

The Hi TK and HiFi Drumbus emulations offer a cleaner, more polished tape-style response with a more open top end and more refined bus behaviour.

The Perfect Drumbus and Perfect Mixbus emulations are voiced for mix-ready bus work, giving you cohesion, density, and musical compression without losing punch.

The low headroom variants push the processor further into compression and tone, offering a heavier and more committed analog-style response.

A Brief History

This style of hardware tape processor was developed to recreate the behaviour of analog tape without requiring an actual tape machine in the workflow. Rather than simply acting as a saturator, designs in this category set out to reproduce the broader experience of tape: compression, headroom behaviour, tonal contour, and the interaction of machine electronics with the signal itself.

What made this particular concept stand out was its passive analog approach and its use of multiple tape-machine-inspired circuits as the basis for a much wider range of textures. Official product materials describe it as a passive analog tape emulator built around three classic tape machine circuit approaches, with controls for bias, headroom, enhancement, and tonal variation designed to mimic different machine behaviours and formulas.

That philosophy is exactly what makes Zulu Part 2 useful in Genesis. It is not just one tape flavour, but a controllable analog platform that can move from subtle mixbus thickening to stronger texture, compression, and deck-style colour depending on how the emulation is chosen and driven.

How to Use It in Genesis

Click CAL to ensure the input is calibrated correctly in Genesis. Start with the Red Drive at the 12 o'clock position, back it off for less tape saturation or increase it to increase tape harmonics and compression.
